Innovation plays a major role in the work that we do every day. In September 2017, our Environmental Sustainability group launched a pilot project to recycle liquid chemicals used by our hematology lab. Currently, the chemicals, which include methanol, are prohibited from entering municipal wastewater systems and are disposed of as chemical waste. In order to reduce the amount of waste produced by our labs, the pilot project works to distill and recapture the methanol used by the hematology department for analyzing samples. The pilot revolved around the installation of a new Procycler methanol recovery unit, which works to repurpose of the methanol that was previously disposed of as chemical waste.
